Kalia, Gaozong & Rev. Dr. Fungchatou Lo

The Lo family has been called to be missionaries to Banda Aceh, Indonesia by LCMS World Mission. They will be working with LCMS World Relief to assist the people in Banda Aceh to  meet their basic needs in the areas of housing, economic, social and education.

Fungchatou became a Christian by way of God working through his wife--Kalia. While they were dating, Fungchatou asked her to marry him. At the time, Kalia was already a devoted Christian lady. She told Fungchatou that she loved him second to God, and if she was to marry him, he must become a Christian. By the grace of God, Fungchatou was baptized in April of 1987; and they got married in June of the same year. Dr. Lo graduated from the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse, with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work. He also graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison with a Masters degree in Social Work, and a Ph.D. in Urban Studies from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Dr. Lo then graduated from Concordia St. Louis Seminary and is an ordained Pastor for the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.

Kalia graduated from the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse with both her Bachelors and Masters degrees in school and community health education. Kalia is an active member of the LWML. What she loves to do the most is serve the Lord by supporting her husband in his ministry.

Gaozong is nine years old and has just finished the third grade. She prays and reads the scripture with her parents every night before she goes to bed.

As a missionary to Banda Aceh, Fungchatou will be working closely with LCMS World Relief and the government of Indonesia to train English teachers and develop school curriculums for the schools in Banda Aceh. He will also create opportunities for the people in Banda Aceh to become self-sufficient through LCMS World Missions.
